Does schools give extra points on age of child?
There are a small number of schools which give extra points depending on the age of child. Reason being given by most schools is that they want kids who are toilet trained and who are easy to handle. Kids of age 3 years are considered to be more difficult to handle than 4yrs old.
What is admission process of nursery classes?
Admission process requires largely filling the form of the school in which one intends to get his child admitted. As per government norms, nowhere in the process a child has to be interviewed or tested by any other means. Admission forms from all applicants are ranked according to points which depend on following parameters: Neighbourhood, other sibling studying in same school, parents being alumni of school, educational background of parents, if it is a girl child and etc. If there is a tie on same point then through lottery candidates are selected. Application form for nursery classes can be distributed from 15th Dec 2009 to 15th Jan 2010 for academic session 2010-2011.
What is the point system and how it is calculated?
Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi, has suggested following criteria and scale to calculate points for a child.

According to total points, candidates are ranked. The above table is suggestive from DoE, Govt. of Delhi. According to rule, 20 points are given to schools and they can decide their own criteria for them.
What is the age criterion for nursery students?
Children who complete three years by 31st March 2010 (Born between 1-4-2006 to 31-3-2007) are eligible for registration for the academic session 2010-2011.
What is distance criterion?
Distance criterion is based on the concept of neighbourhood school. Those who reside nearer to a particular school will be given preference for admission. Distance criterion is different for different schools, some schools consider as 3 KM as most preferred distance and there are many who consider 10km as minimum radius for preference. The procedure for calculating distance varies across schools. Some schools calculate this distance on the basis of their bus route and some do it on the basis of pin code.
What are all the documents required at the time of submission of forms?
Documents required varies across schools. Minimum they would want birth certificate and residence proof. There are few schools who ask for having child’s name on the birth certificate. Other documents could be photocopy of vaccination card, Educational qualification of both parents, Occupation of both parents, photocopy of PAN Card, Last filled IT return etc.
When are nursery forms available?
According to DOE ,Govt. of Delhi notification, admission forms is to be made available in one month time period i.e. from 15/12/2009 to 15/01/2010. No school can release admission forms other than the time period above mentioned. It is on school’s discretion for how long they want to continue selling forms. They can do it for whole month or even 3 days or on some specific date.

  • To bring uniformity in schedules for nursery admissions, the Delhi government has instructed schools to sell forms between December 15 and January 15.
  • Although parents were seen queuing up in front of the schools since early morning, most of them were happy at the uniformity in the schedule thanks to the Delhi government's initiative.
  • Many schools like Mothers International and Shri Ram school has come out with online forms, giving respite to parents from long queues outside schools.
  • "A number of schools have online forms which you can either fill and submit online or take a print out and submit manually. Either way, it is of great help. For the school prospectus, however, you have to go to the school," Sachdev said.
  • The schools cannot conduct any interview of children or parents as the Delhi High Court has banned such practices.
  • As per the schedule, the schools will peruse the application forms till January 30 and bring out the first list of successful candidates by February 1.
